Among Charles Spurgeon's most popular books were John Ploughman's Talk and John Ploughman's Pictures. With the subtitle "Plain Advice for Plain People," John Ploughman was a fictional persona that Spurgeon used to deliver timeless, homespun wisdom.

Ploughman, a plain-spoken, hardworking farmer, to convey insights on Christian living and common-sense. This is one of my favorite Spurgeon books. It uses practical, folksy wisdom and Spurgeon’s wit and spiritual insight to help “men climb to better things.”

Each short chapter uses simple yet vivid illustrations to address various aspects of daily life, character, and conduct. John Ploughman’s Pictures covers topics such as honesty, humility, thrift, and the importance of hard work, as well as the dangers of laziness, pride, and dishonesty.
