An older but enjoyable look at the life of Spurgeon
C.H. Spurgeon: The People’s Preacher is an older docudrama that dramatizes the life of Charles Haddon Spurgeon, tracing his conversion, early preaching ministry, surprising call to London, rise to national influence, and the personal trials and controversies that accompanied his work. Rather than functioning as a modern documentary with interviews and commentary, it recreates scenes from Spurgeon’s life in narrative form, helping viewers picture the world, pressures, and opportunities of Victorian-era London. The film was made by the Christian Television Association.
While it has the feel of an older faith-based production, it succeeds in presenting Spurgeon as more than a famous preacher: a young man gripped by the gospel, burdened for souls, tested by suffering, and used remarkably by God in his generation.
